The 3 Songs You Need To Listen To Right Now To Help You Change The World
We are at a weird place right now. We know more about the world than ever before; but as individuals, we have never felt so lost.
“Everything has been figured out, except how to live.”
Jean-Paul Sartre
Art, once used to better understand ourselves and our emotions is now seen by many as no more than pop culture, or by others, a relaxing pastime. Great tragedies and poems were written to investigate deep philosophical ideas, and stories were told to explore our deepest thoughts and emotions.
At a time when we have lost track of who we are, why we’re here, and what we are supposed to do with our lives, art and in particular music, can still teach us a great deal about what we are meant to do with our lives.
Have a read of the lyrics of the three songs below, before giving them a listen. Hopefully, they will help you with your journey today.
Whilst they are not modern classics, I believe that they are empowering and shine an insightful light onto ourselves and where we are going. I believe that they will even resonate with you to such a level that you will feel empowered to go and change the world.
The genre may not be to your taste, but take in the lyrics and try to really feel what the songs are trying to say to you.
Only One — Daniel Garrick, SO’N, Neyra, Max Landry
When you’re alone, are you dreaming of a better life?
Feeling lost in the cold, well aren’t we all?
And I still believe that you’ve got all that you’ll ever need
So don’t let go of who you are
Remember every place you go
Don’t let them tell you what you know
The only one to change the world is you
So if you’re stuck inside your head
With the things that could have been
The only one to change the world is you
Hold your own, somebody’s always gonna put you down
You’ve got to stand up strong and face it all
And I still believe that you’ve got all that you’ll ever need
You’ve got to dig down deep inside yourself
It’s going to take some time to grow
But you know all that you need to know
When things get heavy you’re already there to face it all
Remember every place you go
Don’t let them tell you what you know
The only one to change the world is you
So if you’re stuck inside your head
With the things that could have been
The only one to change the world is you
Heroes — 32Stitches, Willam Barry
If there is love, if there is hope, if this whole world would open up from being closed
Then there could reason, means to believe, we could show everyone how love was meant to be
Because, love is all, all that we need yeah, after all we’re just human beings, hope for all as long we’re breathing
We could show that, life is hard, but love is the treatment, rise and fall, we move as a species, so if the world has love to believe in
Then we can be heroes, then we can be heroes
If we had friendships, if we have faith, if we had help to make us choose love over hate, then there’d be compassion, there’d be belief, that this whole world would love as one like you and me
Believe, love is all, all that we need yeah, after all we’re just human beings, hope for all as long as we’re breathing
We could show that, life is hard, but love is the treatment, rise and fall, we move as a species, so if the world has love to believe in
Then we can be heroes, and we can be heroes
This world needs heroes.
Paradise — DoubleV, DJ Xquizit, OSITO
I’m not a fast worker
I like to take my time
I don’t see the point in missing out on sights
The world moves too fast these days
I can’t seem to keep the pace
Why can’t we all slow down to enjoy the ride
‘Cos it took me hitting my wall
To slow back down to a crawl
And that’s when I realised
Oh paradise is a state of mind, and I finally found it
It’s in the ups and downs
And the highs and lows
That keeps us grounded
Oh paradise
I’m taking my time
Not rushing the journey
Cos most of the time the stress ain’t worth it to me
and by taking it slow
I found the road
filled with new friends to meet along the way
The world moves too fast these days
I can’t seem to keep the pace
Why can’t we just all slow down to enjoy the ride
‘Cos it took me hitting my wall
To slow back down to a crawl
And that’ when I realised
Oh paradise is a state of mind, and I finally found it
It’s in the ups and downs
And the highs and lows
That keeps us grounded
Oh paradise
Art has a magical way of moving us. I find that songs can resonate with my core message better than any sort of conscious introspective exploration. Perhaps it is hearing words that you so desperately need to hear. Or perhaps it is the comfort that someone out there is feeling exactly the way you are feeling, and they’ve been able to express it in such a way that shakes you to your bones.
Either way, I hope that the above songs empower you to go and make a difference today. After all, the world needs heroes, and maybe you’re the hero that we need.
